THE IDEA
A compact bag that incorporates a light, shelter, and other essentials for overnight camping, portable by itself or as part of a modular pack
PROVING THE CONCEPT
HIERARCHY OF NEEDS
A list of basic overnight camping needs was compiled, then mapped according to highest priority and highest relevance to the project idea.
FINDING THE ESSENTIALS
TOP TIER
Shelter, sleeping, and illumination systems were determined to be of both high priority and high relevance
SECOND TIER
Tools, first aid, rope, and insulation were mid-level priority and could be easily accommodated in general storage
THIRD TIER
Nutrition, fire, and navigation systems were of varying priority and relevance, but were determined to be potentially complicated and more likely to exist in already-designed systems that could be accommodated in general storage
USER TESTING
Due to popularity and accessibility, the ENO DoubleNest hammock and Atlas suspension system were chosen for testing. A user who had no previous hammock experience followed the instructions included in the product to hang the hammock, then tried several sitting and reclining positions.

EARLY SKETCHES
Early concepts for the bag relied heavily on modular elements. Detachable parts, structured stuff sacks, and hard cases were explored, along with various methods of assembling and opening the bag.
